Regular readers of my blog will know that I love a good cleanser. It’s one of the most, maybe even THE MOST ESSENTIAL step in your skincare routine.I will always go on and buy & try new cleansers that are being sent to me. Always curious to discover new, unexpected products that give even better results.

Burt’s Bees is a brand that has had my sympaty for years.Lovely brand, inexpensive and nice, natural-led products. Not a “bio” brand, but lots of natural ingredients. And, as you may know, nature is a rich source of skin-beneficial plant extracts.

Deep Cleansing Cream is a product with a plus :not only does it clean perfectly, ita lso hydrates your skin.PLUS : it gives your skin a lovely, tingling sensation that goes on for several minutes after rinsing it off. I know, some of you will disaprove, but the product is absolutely gentle to your skin.

Featuring ingredients like SOAP BARK (Purifying), CHAMOMILE (Calming), Echinacea (Skin Strengthening) and Hamamelis (Adstingent).

Pricewise, Deep Cleansing Cream, like its big sister (or brother J), the Hydrating Cream Cleanser, comes in a generous, 170 gr. packaging. I’d say it’s a generous 300 ml of concentrated product for about 10 Euros. The product goes a long way, you just need a pea-size of product and emulsify it with a little water. Both have a creamy base, without being greasy. Rinses off perfectly.

Bottom line :excellent cleanser (also see my article on the Cream Cleanser) for all skin types. Devitalized skins will love the tingling effect on their skin. Ideal for oilier skin types too.

Texture :creamy without leaving any residue

Skin type :all except very sensitive or very dry

Strong point :price/quality

Weak points :be carefull if you’re allergic to essential oils.

I got my product from Holland & Barrett (NL)

“ 5 Actives “ , “Jojoba, Green Tea, Marula Oil & Orchid extract”.

Yes guys/girls, here’s another one! Cleanser I mean. I love a GOOD cleanser.Makes me feel happy! And clean, of course ….

Let’s suppose you were looking for a soft, GENTLE creamy cleanser you can use both morning and evening, that takes away make-up, sunblock and all that’s BB, CC or whatever product IN A WHIP. That leaves NO GREASY residue at all.  That you don’t even need to use with a whashcloth to remove it completely. That smells LOVELY.AND belongs to the “NATURAL  cosmetics” category. Plus bonus ACTIVE INGREDIENTS. So if this is what you were looking for, but could’t find :HERE it is, I found it for YOU!

Mad Hippie is a brand that I discovered only very recently and that appeales to me because of their funny, but also “serious skincare” approach. They combine NATURAL INGREDIENTS with truly ACTIVE ones, which is great. I’ll be reviewing more of them in the coming months.

In this particular product, the active ingredients are many. The ones that get special mentionning are:

–       Green Tea, rich in powerfull anti-oxidants, protects your skin cell from external DAMAGE.

–       Macadamia Oil: rich in Omega Fatty Acids that help RESTORING your skin’s outer layer.

–       Jojoba Oil: a light oil that HYDRATES and NOURISHES skin.

–       Vitamin E: anti-oxidant vitamin, PROTECTS skin cells.

–       Algae Extract: rich in minerals & HYDRATING.

–       Sodium Hyaluronate: essential for our collagen & elestin fibers . keeps your skin FIRM.

–       Orchid Extract: see above

Like with all Mad Hippie products, they didn’t save on the active/beneficial ingredients, so you get worth for your money!

Who is this cleanser meant for? Everyone liking natural cosmetics with truly active ingredients.

Skintype:all, although Mad Hippie says normal/dry. It’s light, non-greasy and leaves a clean feeling.

Advantages:everything, frankly ! Although “active ingrdients” don’t mean as much in a cleanser (you’ll take it off in thirty seconds) as in a cream or serum, they are still bonus ingredients.

By the way, the packaging is absolutely fun!

A question that I’ve been asked many, many times is : “how much product should I use to make sure I’m taking care of my skin without wasting any (precious) product ?”

The answer to this question is, that this depends on the type of product. As a guideline :

  • Cleanser:take a 10-Eurocent piece (I suppose it would be “pence” in UK, or let’s say; two nuts) in your handpalms. One quick wipe to spread it onto both your handpalms en straight on the skin with flat hands. Massage for a few seconds, then rinse/take off. I always recommend using a washcloth (see my blog on washcloths).
  • Day/Nightcream:one nut size for face and neck. If you treat your décolletage too, take half a nut extra.
  • Sunblock:Difficult one, as dermatologists tell us to use it abundantly. But this often becomes sticky. Oil-free and “dry-touch” textures work well for this reason!
  • Serum:serums are concentrates, so use sparingly. One pea-size is ok.
  • Ampoules:are meant to be a single dosage, but in my experience this can be a bit too much. There’s no harm in using it in two times : morning and evening, for example. Make sure to use it up within 24 hours.
  • Eyecream:one pea-size for both eye contours is fine.
  • Facial oil:if you use one, use it very sparingly ! Less is certainly more here. Take two to three drops in your handpalms and “press” it into your skin.
  • Bodylotion:here you know best what works for you. Dry skins need more. Also depends on the texture (“richness”) of the product.
