CLEANSING Part 2 – SHOPPING FOR A GOOD CLEANSER

Like I wrote in my previous post on cleansing : it’s no use spending money on expensive creams, if you DO NOT CLEAN YOUR FACE FIRST.

For many of you skincare lovers (freaks), this is clear, but I wouldn’t bet on the number of (wo)men who don’t clean their faces before jumping into bed….

So, now that we all know this, you have to go and shop for one.

To start with: if you can, please BUY TWO. Three would be ideal, if you ask me !  WHY ?

Because if you wear make-up (even light) or SUNBLOCK, you need to remove that first. As LIKE ATTRACKS LIKE and  most products have oil: clean with an OIL or CLEANSING BALM first.

Then a second round with either the same product or another, being a MILK, CREAM or GEL.

NON-FOAMING please!! Foam means DRYING  and ROBBING PRECIOUS MOISTURE from your skin. The substances that make this “nice foam” are called surfactants, the most frequently used being Sodium Laureth Sulfate and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. I don’t like those two and neither should you!

I hear you thinking “how much time is this gonna take?”. Well dear ladies and gentlemen, it’s going to take just TWO MINUTES !

EVENING: START with DRY, CLEAN hands, take a bit of oil or balm, rub into the palms of your hands and apply to your face with flat hands. Make LONG STROKES and ROTATIONS, firmly, but NOT to hard. You’re not cleaning your bathroom! Don’t do a massage in this stage! 30 seconds of this will loosen all make-up/sunblock.

Then: take a washcloth, running tepid water and whipe your face. Repeat, rinsing your washcloth every time. 3 times will do. Follow by doing the same – with a milk or cream if you have one – AND NOW YOU CAN GETLY MASSAGE your face. GENTLY, OK ?

The entire process should take about 2 minutes. CLEAN SKIN GUARANTEED!

In the MORNING, one clean will do. Maybe you’d like another cleanser for now. Supposing you’re not a Dynasty star (gosh, makes me feel antique now), you’re not wearing make-up in bed, are you ?

A cleanser doesn’t have to be EXPENSIVE to be GOOD. Depending on how much you want / can spend, EVERY PRICE RANGE will offer you a good one.

Personally, I don’t mind parabens, PEG’s, silicones or whatever substances some brands say they don’t use. Only MINERAL OIL is a no no for me. Mineral oil is extremely cheap and does not have any advantages for your skin.

Now I suppose you want to know which one to buy …. I will just mention a few of my PERSONAL FAVOURITES, this list is far from being complete; from budget to more luxury cleansers.

BUDGET: HEMA CUCUMBER MILK CLEANSER. THE BODY SHOP ALOE CLEANSING MILK. CATTIER GENTLE CLEANSING MILK, THE BODY SHOP CHAMOMILE CLEANSING BALM (Great!) and OIL, BURT’S BEES CREAM CLEANSER and INTENSIVE CLEANSING CREAM (both on the list to be reviewed), L’OCCITANE SHEA CLEANSING MILK, VICHY NOURISHING CLEANSING MILK, all REN MILK/CREAM/BALM CLEANSERS.

LUXURY (but still affordable): CLARINS CLEANSING CREAM (reviewed), CLARINS CLEANSING MILK (to be reviewed, both versions are great), ORIGINS CLEANSING OIL, VYON CLEANSING MILK, normal skin (if you can get hold of this one), CLINIQUE FACIAL SOAP EXTRA MILD (reviewed), SUSANNE KAUFMANN CLEANSING MILK, DARPHIN INTRAL CLEANSING MILK.

GOOD LUCK AND ENJOY YOUR CLEAN FACE !
