Clarins is a famous French beauty brand launched by Jaques Courtin-Clarins in 1954. Clarins says it will always choose a plant-based source over a chemical one, if it delivers the same level of effectiveness.
This product has 3 plant-based active ingredients : Moringa, Mango & Karité (shea butter). Clarins describes its qualities as follows:
- Protects skin from environmental pollutants
- Nourishes skin
- Makes skin glow and leaves it very comfortable
Ingredients: aqua/water, simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil, sorbitan stearate, caprylic/capric triglyceride, pentylene glycol, polysorbate 60, butylene glycol, betaine, squalane, butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter, peg-100 stearate, glycerin, cetyl alcohol, mangifera indica (mango) seed oil, alpha-glucan oligosaccharide, phenoxyethanol, acrylates C10-30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer, dimethicone, parfun (fragrance), xanthan gum, bisabolol, disodium EDTA, sodium hydroxide, moringa pterygosperma seed extract, citrus medica limonum (lemon) fruit extract, methylisothiazolinone, disodium phosphate, citric acid, chamomilla recutica (matricaria) flower extract, Cl 14700/red 4 (V1815A).
I’ve been a Clarins fan since my first steps in the cosmetic world, I must admit. (It all started in puberty, strungling with heavy acne). Clarins just makes great products, and everyone can find something that suits her/his skin.
This cleanser is rich, gentle, but not-at-all greasy, creamy (yes, it’s a cream, I know, but just in case). For me, it’s an example of how a good cleanser should be.
- Truly gentle
- Non-drying (doesn’t foam, which, for me, takes it up to a higher level no matter what)
- Effective (don’t know about waterproof mascara, however)
- All skin types (although Clarins advises this one for dry skintypes)
- Softening and hydrating
The “anti-pollution” claim seems unnecessary, in my opinion, but we live in a “detox” world, so that’s fine. Moringa is highly softening for skin and is said to prevent the irritation we get from polluted air. This is where the detox part comes in, I suppose. Moringa is a rich source of anti-oxidants (vitamin A and C) en has an anti-inflammatory effect. Do we need more ?
I love this product. LOVE. Would advise it to anyone, even if you have very sensitive skin. All Clarins’ cleansers are great, by the way (will be discussing more in a future article).
There’s a slight fragrance.
Easy to use: massage over dry skin, rinse, or better : remove with a flannel or a washcloth. Ok for eye (not IN) contour. Morning, evening, first or second cleanser.
Natural? For a part ; everything Clarins makes is plant-based.
Plus: all I told you.
Minus: can’t think of anything.
All skin types, even oily. No matter what age.
Available from most perfumeries and department stores.
