“ Fragrance free, without parabens, waterproof, non-comedogenic, dermatologically tested. Contains our patented sunfilter and La Roche Posay thermal water”. The Anthelios suncare series has 27 products. The UVB(SPF)/UVA(PPD) ratio is above EC norm.

Anthelios XL SPF 50+ Gel-Creme dry touch is a suncream with a high (50+) protection. This level of protection is considered as a “sun block”, because it offers maximal protection against sun rays.
The SPF of a product refers to the time a product will protect you. SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. The higher the SPF, the longer the protection will be. A SPF 30 offers the same level of protection as a SPF 20, but will last longer.
The SPF of a product indicates the protection against UVB rays. UVB rays are responsible for redness and sunburn. UVA rays give us a nice tan, but are responsible for skin cancer and so called “photo-ageing” (ageing caused by light/sunrays).
Light skin types need a higher SPF than darker skin types, because the latter have more natural protection. For darker skin types a SPF 30 will do.
UVA rays are present all year long, in all seasons and in all climates, even during winter months. UVA penetrates deep into the dermis of our skin, where collagen and elastin are present. Collagen and elastin are the fibers that maintain skin tightness and elasticity. UVA rays damage these fibers and cause skin ageing (wrinkles, hyperpigmentation). Once the damage is done, it can not be repaired.
The La Roche Posay Anthelios line offers many advantages. The “above EC norm” UVA protection is a strong argument, especially these days. The line offers products for both face and body, in different textures.
Texture: This 50+ dry-touch gel-cream has a nice, non sticky feel. Doesn’t make skin shine (like some other products do) and feels very comfortable, not dry, like the “dry touch” might suggest. Doens’t make you look white or grey, like some high SPF’s do.
How to use: during holidays, obviously, but also as a daily protection. My advise is to start sun protection from February, when sun rays start getting a bit stronger. Practically, you would have a sunblock winter stop from November until February, in our North European climate.
Plus: high SPF combined with a super light texture. No white residue. Cream and serum can be used first, without skin feeling “overloaded”.
Minus: nothing I can think of, I liked it very much and have used it up until the last drop.
Who can use it? Everyone, in fact, looking for a light textured sunblock. Very good in warm climates too. If you prefer a rich, creamy texture, this product is not for you.
